April 2013 Diving Incidents

Calls for help received at the DAN Asia-Pacific Office in April came from the Philippines, Fiji, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia and varied from many cases of DCI, to an auto-immune response in a diver with a history of PFO and another diver aggravating an existing foot injury.

You will notice that a couple of divers did not call DAN for help until several days later at which point there was a worsening of initial symptoms and therefore the need for chamber treatment. We stress again the importance of calling a DAN-Supported Hotline at the first onset of symtpoms.

Remember, these are just a sample of calls made directly to the DAN Asia-Pacific office. These statistics do not include the calls that were received via DAN's Emergency Hotlines.

These incidents highlight just how important it is to have an organisation like DAN there to help you should you ever experience a diving accident or illness.

If you are a diver and not yet a DAN Member, we encourage you to join today.
