Invitation to Participate in a Survey on Underwater Navigation

The Scuba STAR Network is an independent organisation that provides safety-related information, recommendations, and guidance to divers, certification agencies, dive centres, resorts and equipment manufacturers and generally works to improve safety for divers. Below is an overview regarding their latest online survey:

One of the primary skills that any open water diver should master is that of underwater navigation. The process of maintaining orientation and getting around in the underwater world can be a challenge, but is essential to safe, stress-free diving. Despite their training, divers sometimes become disoriented on a dive, and must surface or take other steps to regain proper orientation and return to the shore or boat.  Our April/May ‘09 Safety Survey is designed to explore the issues underwater navigation, including the types of navigational techniques and tools used by divers, and the difficulties they occasionally encounter.

Please take a few minutes to visit them at www.scubaSTARnet.com and complete their safety survey. You’ll be doing your part to improve diver safety.

Dive Operators Procedures Manual

DAN Asia-Pacific has part funded the preparation of a Dive Operators Procedures Manual. This manual was created by Chris Coxon to assist dive operators in Victoria, Australia to comply with various local Standards and Regulations. However, it can serve as a useful template for dive operators in other places also to help them design a suitable Procedures Manual for themselves. It is attached as a PDF file and may be downloaded as required. DAN AP and its partners in this project hope that it will be of assistance to you.
